USAF Selects Vertex Solutions to Transform Pilot Training

On 22 July 2020, Vertex was awarded an OTA agreement to lead the integration of the USAF’s Pilot Training Transformation (PTT) program.

This program, overseen jointly by the USAF Air Education and Training Command (AETC), 19 AF, and the interservice Defense Innovation Unit (DIU), will revolutionize Undergraduate Pilot Training (UPT). Vertex will lead the design and development of an open-source, scalable, and extensible extended reality (XR) training ecosystem to support pilot training across the continuum of learning.

PTT builds on the USAF’s previous Pilot Training Next (PTN) program, for which Vertex also created custom software plugins to improve hand tracking and physical-virtual synchronization between users’ physical hands and their representation in the virtual environment.

Vertex, as a prime contractor and systems integrator, will integrate current and future PTT software and hardware components, provide hardware solutions for the cockpit simulation environment, and provide on-premises support for delivered training systems. Vertex will develop, deliver, maintain, and support complete XR training devices, portable XR training devices, and instructor-operator solutions based on state-of-the-art commercial simulation environments, hardware solutions for the cockpit simulation environment, and ancillary software elements.

Vertex is focused on bringing the latest technology and learning science to improve the training enterprise. We specialize in delivering high-fidelity training to the most widely available delivery devices, reducing costs and training time and improving student experiences and outcomes.
