USN Divers & EOD Techs Add Vertex's Cutting-Edge XR Training System to Their Curriculum
4 MAR 2021 (Panama City, FL) – DVIDS recently profiled Vertex Solutions’ first-of-its-kind mixed reality (MR) MK 16 Underwater Breathing Apparatus Simulator (UBASim), developed for the U.S. Navy Naval Diving and Salvage Training Center (NDSTC) under a contract with the Irregular Warfare Technical Support Directorate (IWTSD; formerly CTTSO).
According to Rear Adm. Pete Garvin, commander, Naval Education and Training Command, who recently used the system, "[Vertex's UBASim] will pay incredible dividends for the future development of our Sailors."
Vertex president and CEO Dennis Wikoff echoed Rear Adm. Garvin's enthusiasm and noted how proud the entire Vertex Solutions team is to be supporting the Navy with the latest extended reality (XR) training technologies: "UBASim demonstrates how Vertex's team of scientists, engineers, designers, and developers can rapidly move from the analysis of a complex problem to the delivery of a custom, state-of-the-art solution with the right mix of COTS and custom components and proven training methodologies. We're honored and excited to support the Navy's training program and ultimately to contribute to diver safety and mission success."
The UBASim system allows Navy divers and EOD techs for the first time to realistically yet safely train MK 16 operations and emergency procedures. It combines custom physical components and complex physics modeling with immersive VR environments and an intelligent tutor to maximize training effectiveness and increase diver safety and operational performance.
