Job Summary:

 

Lead the end‑to‑end systems engineering for XR flight training programs from program inception through delivery, owning requirements, architecture, interfaces, and V&V in Catia Magic (SysML) as the single source of truth. Partner with stakeholders across software, hardware, courseware, and human‑systems integration to ensure system fidelity, safety, and mission outcomes. Contribute to evolving organizational SE processes, templates, and best practices.

Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)

  • Develop and maintain SysML models in Catia Magic as the single source of truth for requirements, behaviors, interfaces, and traceability.
  • Establish model governance, versioning, and compliance with program baselines.

 

Architecture & Interfaces

  • Define system architectures for XR flight training devices, including avionics simulation, XR visualization, sensors, and hardware interfaces.
  • Own ICDs and ensure compatibility across physical, functional, and program interfaces.

 

Verification & Validation

  • Plan and execute V&V strategies tied to training objectives, system fidelity, safety, and human factors.
  • Lead technical reviews; assess design performance and reliability; coordinate test events and acceptance.

 

Baselines, Risk & Readiness

  • Manage requirements baselines, risks/issues/opportunities, and technology readiness assessments.
  • Ensure affordability, maintainability, cybersecurity, and specialty engineering factors are addressed.

 

Stakeholder & Technical Leadership

  • Serve as technical decision authority for system architecture; facilitate cross-functional reviews.
  • Mentor systems engineers; collaborate with instructors, pilots, and courseware teams.

 

Process Improvement

  • Contribute to organizational SE processes, templates, and workflows (MBSE conventions, review gates, model audits).

 

Supervisory Responsibility

No direct reports; provides technical leadership and mentorship across systems engineering activities.

 

Work Environment
Primarily remote with occasional integration lab or customer site work as program needs dictate.

 

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and work on a computer for long periods of time.  The employee must be able to lift and carry up to 10 pounds as needed. Periodic XR headset usage and light hardware handling during integration or demo activities.

 

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the “core” work hours of 1000 - 1600 (Central). Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

 

Travel

Travel up to 10% for customer demos, training events, supplier integration, and program reviews (domestic and occasional international).

 

Required Education, Experience, and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field of study; advanced degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of work-related experience.
  • Daily MBSE practice: SysML modeling in Catia Magic (MagicDraw/Cameo) as the single source of truth for requirements, architecture, interfaces, and traceability.
  • Demonstrated experience leading requirements development, functional decomposition, interface control, and V&V in complex, multidisciplinary systems.
  • Experience working in government programs with controlled engineering baselines; strong communication skills for executive, customer, and technical audiences. managers, and technical subject matter experts.
  • U.S. citizenship and Secret clearance eligibility.

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • Experience in XR, simulation, aerospace/defense, or avionics domains.
  • Familiarity with human-systems integration and training system fidelity considerations.
  • Contributions to organizational SE process development (templates, gates, modeling conventions).

Work Authorization/Security Clearance

Drug screening in compliance with drug-free workplace standards. Ability to obtain a federal government clearance when required for projects.
