USAF Pilots Praise Vertex's Simulators at Formal Evaluation Event

Vertex Immersive Training Devices (ITDs) Earn High Marks at Formal Evaluation Event

5 FEB 2021 (San Antonio, TX) – During a five-day formal evaluation event held at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, pilots and instructor pilots (IPs) with the USAF 559th Flying Training Squadron (FTS) flew brand-new immersive training devices (ITDs) and provided feedback.

Across the board, Vertex's ITDs earned high marks from participants.

The evaluation focused on both hardware and software solutions as part of the DIU Pilot Training Transformation (PTT) effort. The participants flew and tested four different seat configurations and four different aircraft stick and grip configurations, while also testing a portable ITD that can reside anywhere, from a military flight training room to a student’s dorm room.

The Randolph Vertex team designed and facilitated the evaluation in support of 19 AF, with more than 50 users from four local flying training units and multiple flying training units from other AETC pilot training bases. Vertex subcontractor Quantum Improvements Consulting (QIC) coordinated and collected the formal evaluation feedback while pilots and IPs flew actual flight scenarios in VR.

The results of this event are being used to perfect what is already a phenomenal ITD and drive final hardware and software solutions for the future of U.S. military pilot training.
